A kind and thorough review of Nothing in the World is now out and about in the latest issue (Vol. 19, No. 45 Fall/Winter 2006--scroll down to the fourth review) of Other Voices, thanks to Kelly Zavala.

Punk Planet interview.

I wish I could tell you that I was punk rock. I wish I could tell you I wore the right boots and shaved my head with the right razor and knew all the lyrics. Sadly, I cannot in clear conscience tell you this. The good news is they let me go to their concerts anyway, and Punk Planet even let Elizabeth Crane interview me, which was excellent fun.

(Damn. See what I mean? If you use phrases like 'excellent fun,' you cannot be punk rock no matter how bad you want it.)

Interviewing my daughter.

Writers get to talk all they want about their work. Writers' kindergardeners are less often asked. At the behest of the delightful Sue Henderson of LitPark, my wife and I sought to get to the bottom of my daughter's interest in colors and sharks. I'd only ever done one other interview before, so it took a while to find our groove, but once we were in it: groovy.

New story at The Kenyon Review.

Great news--The Kenyon Review, a pillar in the litmag world, has just put out Volume 28, Number 4, which includes a story of mine called "Wait," a number of terrific poems by Meghan O'Rourke, a great Eric Gansworth story, and Willard Spiegelman's strong review of Jorie Graham's Overlord.

Good news, and less than good.

The good: the first print run of Nothing in the World has sold out in less than two months.

The less than good: Bullfight Media is closing its doors. I'm not sure what this means for the future of Nothing in the World. With luck it will get picked up by whoever takes my next book. Stay tuned...

Nothing in the World.

And it has happened! My first book, a novella called Nothing in the World, is now itself an actual object in the world, and I couldn't be happier. It won the Bullfight Media Little Book Prize a couple of months back, and Bullfight Review editor Calvin Liu has done great work on the edits and design.

Next week I'll be starting a little U.S. tour we've set up for it. We kick off in New York at KGB, a reading with Peter Carey and Wesley Stace; then at The Back Room with a big group of fellow contributors to Opium, one of my favorite magazines. From there I'll be jumping to the west coast for some readings in L.A. (Skylight Books and Village Books with Jim Ruland) and San Diego (Voz Alta with Sean Carswell and Lizz Huerta); then a stop at Valencia Street Books in San Francisco, another at Mendocino Book Company in my hometown of Ukiah, and a gig or two back in Beijing to finish things off.

And I can't wait to get started.
